Venmo Transaction Privacy
Please be aware that Venmo transactions are public by default
- The Issue: Venmo operates as a pseudo-social network. Historically, payments and their accompanying notes were set to "Public" by default. This means anyone on the internet could see who you paid, when you paid them, and the message attached.
- The Fix: In the app, tap Me > Settings (gear icon) > Privacy. Change the default privacy setting from Public to Private (only you and the recipient can see it)
- The Fix for Past Payments: While in the Privacy menu, you can select Past Transactions to retroactively change your entire history of transactions to Private.
